QuickChart alternative: when Cofferdock makes sense (and when it doesn't)
QuickChart is a very popular way to generate chart images from an API. If you're deciding between QuickChart and Cofferdock, here are the real differences, including the cases where QuickChart is the better choice.
Prices as listed on each website on 14 September 2026. Check them before you decide.
Pricing
| QuickChart | Cofferdock | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Community plan: 10,000 charts a month, with rate limits and an AGPL licence | 50 credits a month |
| Paid | Professional: €39 a month, unlimited charts | Pro €9 (500 credits), Business €29 (2,000), Scale €79 (10,000) |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom |
Where QuickChart wins
- If you only make charts, its free plan is very generous. 10,000 charts a month for free is a lot.
- Unlimited for €39. If you generate thousands of charts a month, its Professional plan is hard to beat.
- The full power of Chart.js, with very fine-grained customisation, plus a URL shortener for charts.
If all you need is charts, and lots of them, QuickChart is the logical choice.
Where Cofferdock wins
- It isn't just charts. The same credits give you HTML to image, HTML to PDF, website screenshots, QR codes, PDF editing, image conversion, zips and validation. If your workflow creates a chart and then puts it into a PDF that you email, you do it all with one account.
- Simpler to send. You give it labels and number series in a short JSON (
type,labels,series), without learning the full Chart.js configuration. - Output ready for n8n, Make and Zapier: the image itself, base64 or a temporary link.
- Servers in the European Union, and nothing you send is stored.
An example call on Cofferdock
{
"type": "bar",
"labels": ["Jan", "Feb", "Mar"],
"series": [{ "name": "Sales", "data": [120, 90, 150] }],
"output": "binary"
}
Send it with POST to https://api.cofferdock.com/chart with your key in the x-api-key header. There's a recipe for n8n, and every other option is in the API reference.
In short
- Charts only, lots of them, with heavy customisation: QuickChart.
- Charts alongside other tasks (PDFs, images, screenshots, validation) or something simple to set up: Cofferdock.
You can try Cofferdock on the free plan, no card needed.
